Broncos Blanked by Pats 2-0
The Swift Current Broncos and the Regina Pats clashed on Wednesday night and it was all about the goaltenders as they combined to stop 71 of 73 shots as the Broncos were held scoreless for the first time this season in a 2-0 loss.
The first period saw the Regina Pats in the Broncos end of the ice for the majority of the frame and put up 22 shots on goal compared to only six for Swift Current. Broncos goaltender Jordan Papirny was impressive in backstopping all 22 Pats shots to keep the game scoreless through 20 minutes of play.
Nick Henry would break the scoreless tie midway through the second as Dawson Leedahl completed a long pass to Henry who tucked it home to make it 1-0 Pats. Henry added the insurance marker and second of the night at the 16:06 mark to put the Broncos in a 2-0 hole heading into the third period.
Broncos forwards Ryley Lindgren and Arthur Miller each had a breakaway attempt denied by Pats goaltender Jordan Hollett during the third period. Swift Current managed nine shots on goal but could not solve Hollett. A couple late penalties from Colby Sissons and Tyler Steenbergen ultimately doomed the Broncos from a late comeback and 2-0 was the final.
Swift Current applied pressure in the latter half of this contest and put up 28 shots on goal in a losing effort while Papirny earned second star honours for turning aside 43 shots.
Regina went 1/5 on the power play while Swift Current finished the evening 0/3.
Bronco Week continues on Friday evening as the Broncos welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Credit Union i-Plex. Puck drop is 7:00pm CT.
