Swift Current, Sask. – On the evening where the Ted Knight Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2024 was announced, it was a “Hall of Fame” effort from the Swift Current Broncos as they defeated the Lethbridge Hurricanes 6-0 on Wednesday evening.
“It was probably one of our best 60-minute efforts all year,” said Broncos Assistant Coach Regan Darby. “Guys came out ready to play, they didn’t let off the gas.”
Josh Filmon bookended the scoring in the hockey game, while Connor Gabriel and Connor Hvidston scored in the first as the Broncos led 3-0 after one period.
That was followed by Conor Geekie and Petr Pavelec scoring in the second period as the lead extended to 5-0 before Filmon’s second of the night to cap off the scoring.
Reid Dyck stopped 28 shots for his first shutout of the year, and his 10th win of the season. Darby said it was great to see him get the win and the shutout after his injury.
“Coming back from injury, it’s never easy,” Darby said, “He’s put the work in trying to get himself, rehabilitated and that was a big game, big statement game for him.”
Ryan McCleary also added two assists in the contest as the Broncos also snapped a four game losing streak.
The powerplay was 0-for-3 for the Broncos, while the penalty kill was 1-for-1.
The Broncos are back in action on Friday for a road meeting with the Regina Pats.
