Boston Pizza Post Game Recap: Broncos blanked by Pats 2-0
A battle of the goaltenders ensued as Swift Current’s Isaac Poulter and Regina’s Max Paddock were locked in from start to finish combining to only give up two goals against in 44 combined shots. The two pucks that got through were both for the host Regina Pats as they went on to shutout the Broncos by a score of 2-0.
Solid defence was displayed throughout the whole first period as the shots on goal favoured the Pats 7-4 and Regina forward Jake Leschyshyn got the lone goal with 37 seconds left before the period expired. Leschyshyn’s line mate Austin Pratt came sweeping down the right wing and tossed a long cross ice pass to Leschyshyn who tapped it by the outstretched pad of Poulter.
Scott Mahovlich made it 2-0 Regina 2:03 into the second period as he tipped in a Brady Pouteau point shot while parked in front of the Bronco crease.
The Broncos’ Eric Houk and the Pats’ Carter Massier dropped the gloves a couple minutes later to light up a spark and give their clubs a spirited boost.
Swift Current held their East Division rival to only 13 shots heading to the third period but were still seeking their first goal of the night.
The Broncos managed to record 11 shots on target in the final period but late penalties issued to blue liner Noah King and Alex Moar further made the comeback attempt that much more difficult. Poulter was pulled for the extra attacker in the final moments of play but the Broncos couldn’t solve Paddock and were shutout 2-0.
Shots on goal favoured Regina 24-20. The Broncos went 0/1 on the power play while the penalty kill play was effective for Swift Current as they did not allow a power play marker on three Regina opportunities.
Swift Current falls to 3-16-0-1 on the season and will try to get back into the win column on Sunday in an afternoon matinee vs. the Red Deer Rebels at the Innovation Credit Union I-Plex. Puck drop is set for 4:00pm.
