Boston Pizza Post Game Recap: Broncos point streak comes to an end against Raiders
Swift Current met the first place Prince Albert Raiders on Friday night to kickstart a three-in-three weekend set. The Broncos entered Friday night on a hot streak having won two straight games and earning points in three consecutive games.
Noah Gregor netted the lone period for Prince Albert halfway through the first period as the shots on goal heavily favoured the Raiders 19-7.
It only took eight seconds for Prince Albert to make it 2-0 as forward Sean Montgomery tucked one by Broncos goaltender Joel Hofer when Brett Leason made a sneaky backdoor pass to the tape of Montgomery to set up the goal.
Tanner Nagel got one back for Swift Current 41 seconds later when his team was on their third power play of the game. Rookie forward Ben King fired one high off the crossbar but the puck took a kind bounce in the Raiders crease and Nagel was able to pounce on the opportunity.
The Raiders scored less than two minutes later as Kody McDonald’s long wrist shot had eyes and found its way to the back of the twine. Nolan Allen fanned on a pass from the left point resulting in the 20-year-old veteran McDonald picking up the loose puck and putting it on net, leading to Prince Albert’s third goal.
Late in the frame, Broncos forward Eric Houk scored a magnificent goal to cut the deficit to 3-2. A native of Regina, SK, Houk received a good pass from Owen Blocker and found himself all alone in front of Raiders netminder Donovan Buskey, beating him with a nifty backhand forehand move.
McDonald netted his second of the night as he skated down the left wing and placed a hard wrist shot off the far post and in to give the Raiders a 4-2 lead before the second period horn.
The game got away from the Broncos in the third period as both Gregor and Montgomery tacked on their second goals of the night respectively to deliver a 6-2 loss to Swift Current.
Shots on goal were 43-19 in favour of Prince Albert. Swift Current finished 1/7 on the power play while Prince Albert scored on their lone try.
Up next on the schedule is a date against the East Division rival Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre on Saturday, November 10th. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm CT.
