Broncos Drop Rookie Game
The Broncos put up a hard-fought battle outshooting their opponent 31-28 yet fell 3-1 to the Moose Jaw Warriors in the All-Rookie Game at Mosaic Place Tuesday night.
Warriors’ Colton McCarthy would open the scoring and put Moose Jaw on the board seven minutes into play. But, 15-year-old Glenn Gawdin would retaliate soon after coming fresh off of a Tripping penalty and score a beautiful goal mistifying Warriors’ netminder Zachary Sawchenko and locking the game at one.
By the midway mark of the second period the Broncos would switch up netminders, as Landon Bow would step in net for the duration of play. In the dying minutes of the second period, Ben Duperreault would restore the Warriors one goal lead as they would carry a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.
A flurry of penalties would hurt the Broncos momentum late in the third as they would be forced to kill a 5-on-3. Warriors’ Ethan Williams would capitalize on the man advantage upping their lead to two. With just over a minute left in play at full strength the Broncos wouldn’t be able to close the gap as they would fall 3-1 to the Warriors in their first pre-season game.
15-year-old Travis Child and 17-year-old Landon Bow would split the goaltending duties in net. Stopping a total 28 out of 31 shots.
The Broncos went 0/2 on the power play while the Warriors went 1/9.
