Mike Priestner knows a thing or two about re-builds. He has taken over struggling car dealerships in the past and turned them around to become big money-makers to the point where his Go Auto company is one of the more powerful auto empires in Canada.
Now, he has turned his attention to the Saskatoon Blades, a team in full re-build in its second season under Priestner’s ownership. Mike, who has history in the Western Hockey League through both his and his son’s hockey playing days, is intent on building a champion.
One of the key hires in the re-build is Blades GM and Head Coach Bob Woods. Woods came to the Blades after a successful run as an assistant coach with the Anaheim Ducks and, prior to that, the Washington Capitals. He also has the unique record of being the only person to win the Calder Cup, the AHL’s championship trophy, as a player, assistant coach and head coach with the Hershey Bears. Prior to that, Bob had a stellar career in the East Coast Hockey League, where he was inducted into the ECHL Hockey Hall of Fame.
The Blades also feature Assistant Coach Dean Brockman, who signed on to be Bob’s assistant coach after guiding the Humboldt Broncos for the past 17 years. He led the Broncos to numerous titles, including two national championships.
Mike’s son, Colin, is on the ground in Saskatoon overseeing operations as managing partner along with president Steve Hogle.
Join Mike and his entire team, along with some of the players, for a round table on the state of the Saskatoon Blades; where they’ve been, where they are and where they’re going.
We hope to see you at the Saskatoon Club on February 24th! For tickets, call 306-652-1780.
