Blades Fall To Broncos In Swift Current
The Saskatoon Blades saw their 3-game winning streak snapped on Friday night as they fell 2-1 to the Swift Current Broncos.
The Blades streak was snapped after Graham Black scored the game winning goal in the 3rd period, handing the Blades their second loss of the season to the Broncos.
Once again, Saskatoon got off to a good start in the game and scored the opening goal. At 4:25, Lukas Sutter picked up a rebound by the Broncos goal and slammed it home for his 2nd of the season, giving the Blades a 1-0 lead. But, the Broncos were quick to answer. Former Blade Levi Bews continued his strong performance against his former club as he scored his 5th of the season only 27 seconds later to tie up the game.
The game headed to the second period all tied at one, with Saskatoon outshooting the Broncos 13-9 in the first.
That same theme continued in period two as Saskatoon outshot the Broncos by 11 in the frame, 16-5. Despite the shot advantage, the Blades were stymied by Broncos goalie Eetu Laurikainen. The Blades best chances including a long 5 on 3 powerplay chance that they failed to make count. The game would head to the third all tied up at one.
In that third period, the Broncos had the early chances and made it count as Graham Black took a feed from Ryon Moser and scored his 5th of the year at 6:21. Saskatoon would push as the period went on, outshooting the Broncos 15-14 in the frame, but failing to score. That included a late timeout and a pulled goalie, but Laurikainen had the answers as the Broncos won 2-1.
The Finnish netminder made 43 saves and was the first star, while Andrey Makarov stopped 26 shots in the loss. The loss for Saskatoon moved their record to 5-8-0-0 on the year.
Saskatoon will have a chance to improve upon that record on Saturday night as they play host to Connor Cox and the Everett Silvertips on Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Saskatoon will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off with funds going toward the C95 radio marathon.
The action starts at 7:05PM at the Credit Union Centre!
