The Saskatoon Blades (18-10-2-2) play their second game in as many nights as they take on the Regina Pats (9-17-4-2) at the Brandt Centre on Saturday.
The Bridge City Bunch won their first game back from the Christmas break last night at home against the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-2. In front of nearly 8,000 fans on home ice, the Blades scored five unanswered goals in the final 20 minutes to reclaim first place in the Eastern Conference.
Tonight’s the third meeting of the year between the Highway 11 rivals, each nabbing a win from the other. Both sides beat the other on home ice 4-3, the Blades needing overtime to do so on October 15.
Who to Watch
20-year-old sniper Brandon Lisowsky scored a pair of goals in yesterday’s win, including the first Teddy Bear Toss goal of his career. The Port Coquitlam, BC product scored two goals within 16 seconds of the third period to tie the game 2-2. Lisowsky’s tallies give him the team-lead in goals with 20. The fifth-year Blade is also tied for fifth on the Blades’ all-time goal scoring list alongside Perry Ganchar with 141 in 253 career WHL games. Lisowsky is second on the team in points with 38 (20G, 18A) and is on a ten-game point streak with ten goals and eight assists in that span.
Alternate captain Rowan Calvert scored a goal and an assist in last night’s win over Moose Jaw. The 19-year-old winger potted his team-leading tenth powerplay goal of the year to make it 4-2 Blades in the third period. Calvert now has career highs in goals (13), assists (16), and points (29) in 28 games. The Moose Jaw, SK product missed action since December 7 with an upper-body injury until last night.
Sophomore defenceman Morgan Tastad scored his first goal of the season last night. The Loreburn, SK native’s goal was the game-winner midway through the third, giving him five points (1G, 4A) in 28 games.
