Smith leads North York to overtime win over Oshawa
The North York Rangers were winners in the 2024 OHL Cup tournament-opener Monday morning, fending off the Oshawa Generals in a gripping 3-2 overtime victory as Brady Smith cashed in on an opportunity.
After a scoreless opening period, the Rangers’ duo of Jalen Lobo (1) and Smith (2) came alive, both burying the puck into the back of the net, capitalizing on pinpoint passes from Jacob Bultje.
The Generals remained resilient, responding as Taylor Jimmo (1) and Jordan Bonner (1) evened the score at 2-2 heading into the extra frame.
In a thrilling overtime matchup, Smith emerged as the hero for the Rangers, securing his second goal of the game and clinching the victory for his team.
North York will take on the Thunder Bay Kings tomorrow at 11:45am. Oshawa will look for their first win tonight at 5:30pm against the Huron-Perth Lakers.
