Oakville Rangers forward Ethan Belchetz named 2024 OHL Cup MVP
The Oakville Rangers held on to defeat the GTHL champion Vaughan Kings by a score of 1-0 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon. As has been the long-standing tradition at the OHL Cup, the player deemed Most Valuable in the tournament is awarded the Tim Adams Memorial Trophy after the final buzzer.
This year’s recipient is Oakville forward Ethan Belchetz, who finished tied for the team lead in scoring, recording five goals, six assists and 11 points over seven contests. The 6-foot-5, 230Ib. winger is widely considered a top prospect for the 2024 OHL Priority Selection fast approaching on April 12th and 13th, and was named OMHA West U16 AAA Player of the Year earlier Saturday.
“These guys are like family to me,” Belchetz said after the win. “This was the group to do it. We were a tight-knit group and these guys are my brothers. We’ve been playing Vaughan for the past three years. It’s been ups and downs along the way, but it feels great to finally get the win against those guys.”
Belchetz recorded a point in six of Oakville’s seven tournament games, with three-point showings against both Sun County and North York. He follows Adam Craievich (2013) as the second Oakville player to have his name etched into the Tim Adams Memorial Trophy.
