Colts take down Rebels in extra time
The OMHA champion Barrie Colts held on in their tournament opener, taking down the Mississauga Rebels in a 3-2 overtime win.
Down 2-1 with just over a minute left in the final frame, Rebels forward Cole Zurawski (1) managed to find the back of the net, sending the game into extra time.
With only 17 seconds left on the board, Colts forward Nathan Amidovski (1) would be crowned the overtime hero, netting the game-winner on the power play.
“I haven’t had many overtime winners,” said Amidovski, who scored 40 goals during the regular season, “so to start off the tournament on a good note feels great. I think our team could have started off better throughout the game, but it’s important that we got the job done,” said Amidovski.
Missing the entire regular season due to an off-season injury, Rebels netminder Gavin Bretts had a standout 39-save performance, earning Player of the Game honours for his team.
The Rebels will look to clinch their first win of the tournament as they take on the Ottawa Valley Titans at 7:00pm, while the Colts return to action against Ottawa Valley at 3:00pm on Tuesday.
