North York’s five-goal second launches Rangers past Kings
The North York Rangers offence came alive as they exploded for seven goals to beat the Thunder Bay Kings 7-2 in a Shanahan Division matchup.
North York outshot Thunder Bay 55-9.
Top Prospects Tyler Challenger (2G, 2A) and Kohyn Eshkawkogan (1G, 3A) each had a team high four points as the Rangers lit the lamp five times in the second period with goals from underage talent Camryn Warren (1), Brady Smith (3), Challenger (2), Jackson Kimelman (1), and Eshkawkogan (1).
Landen Hanson (1) and Luke Siciliano (1) would provide the two Thunder Bay goals as they looked to make it close, but Brady Smith (4) would have other plans, scoring his second of the game on the power play to put a stamp on the Rangers win.
A North York team with tons of offensive talent on the front and back end, Eshkawkogan praised his team’s ability to create offence saying, “With our offence, we have such a strong forecheck with our great forward group, we just really like to get off the boards and get to the middle of the ice which helps our group generate so much offensively.”
“Our team success is big for us, we have a great group of guys here who just want to work and win, as long as we keep doing the same thing, as long as we don’t take our foot off the gas and keep generating offence we know we’ll have success tomorrow,” said Eshkawkogan describing his team’s expectations for tomorrow. As the GTHL Finalists, North York has high expectations heading into the final day of the round robin.
North York will look to remain undefeated as they face the Huron Perth Lakers tomorrow morning at 11:30am. Aiming to finish off their 2024 OHL Cup showcase on a high note, Thunder Bay will take on the Oshawa Generals tomorrow morning at 11:45am.
