Stars find first win with team effort against London
The wild card entry Niagara North Stars captured their first win of the 2024 OHL Cup prestende by FPS Payment after beating the London Jr. Knights 3-1.
North Stars captain Patrick Babin (1) opened the scoring under two minutes into the game, while Nicholas Gilby (1) and Ty Daniels (1) each had two points with a goal and an assist respectively as three goals was all Niagara needed, with goaltender Liam Edgcumbe putting up another strong performance in net with with 26 saves.
“As a team we worked together really well, had lots of opportunities and were able to execute what the coaches asked of us, if we continue doing that I think we’ll have success,” said Gilby, highlighting their first win of the round robin, as he also took home Zephyr Player of the Game for Niagara.
Scoring the Knights lone goal was forward Seth Coomber (1) with a shot from the slot, as Coomber also received Zephyr Player of the Game honours for London.
Niagara North (1-1-0) will look to make it back-to-back wins as they take on the Toronto Marlboros this evening at 5:00pm. London (0-2-1) will look to get a win in their final game of the tournament Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm.
