Fitzgerald’s four-goal performance wraps up Petes’ perfect Round Robin
The Peterborough Petes wrapped up a perfect Round Robin, defeating the London Jr. Knights 6-3 in their fourth straight win.
Tied at three, Peterborough scored three unanswered third period goals to pull away and close out their preliminary schedule at 4-0.
Registering a four-goal performance, Colin Fitzgerald (4) kicked off the scoring for the Petes, while Ethan Richardson (1) added another to make it 2-0. Raiden Doxtator (1) responded for the Knights, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Fitzgerald (5) extended the lead once more, making it 3-1. In a second period surge, Doxtator (2) netted his second goal of the game, followed by a marker from Ethan Dean (1), levelling the score heading into the final period.
Fitzgerald (6, 7) proved to be the difference-maker once again, securing two additional goals, including the game-winner. Owen Kelly (1) contributed with an additional goal, adding some extra insurance to further solidify the Petes’ perfect record.
Fitzgerald spoke on his standout performance, “I’ve never scored four in a game before, let alone in a big game like this one. I’m happy but I’m going to focus on the next game. From the start our goal has been to go 4-0 and we accomplished that. I’m really proud of the group we have and hopefully we can carry this momentum into the Quarter-Finals.”
The Petes will suit up in Quarter-Final action, taking on the second place finisher of the Shanahan Division on Thursday at 12:15pm. London finishes the OHL Cup with a record of 0-3-1, led in scoring by Manuel Amado and Raiden Doxtator with two goals each.
