Thursday Highlights: Spits stay hot at home
WINDSOR 5, GUELPH 2
– Trailing 2-1 after one, Windsor scored four unanswered with Wyatt Johnston recording a goal and two assists.
– Andrew Perrott scored the go-ahead goal with 43 seconds left in the second period before Daniel D’Amico and Ethan Miedema tacked on third period tallies.
– Matthew Poitras and Cooper Walker scored Storm goals.
– Xavier Medina stopped 26 of 28 for the win in his first start since Jan. 20th.
– Owen Bennett made 31 saves in the loss for Guelph.
– The Spitfires have won three in a row, improving to 21-11-2-2 for fourth place in the Western Conference. Windsor has won seven in a row at the WFCU Centre dating back to Dec. 8th.
– Guelph falls five points back of Windsor, sitting fifth after suffering a third straight loss. Their record is now 19-13-2-1.

NORTH BAY 5, SAULT STE. MARIE 2
– The Battalion won 5-2 with a pair of empty netters as Edmonton Oilers prospect Matvey Petrov had two goals and an assist in the third period in his first action since Jan. 22nd.
– The Troops scored four unanswered in the third period, with Kyle McDonald finding the back of the net while Mitchell Russell netted his second of the night.
– Ryan O’Rourke and Rory Kerins had Sault Ste. Marie goals.
– Montreal Canadiens prospect Joe Vrbetic made 26 saves for the win opposite Sault Ste. Marie’s Tucker Tynan who made 29 saves.
– North Bay’s second straight win improves them to 21-15-3-3 for third place in the Eastern Conference.
– Sault Ste. Marie’s first regulation loss since Jan. 9th sees them sit at 23-13-3-1, two points up on Flint for the Eastern Conference lead.

– Shane Wright and Francesco Arcuri had a goal and an assist as Kingston started a weekend road trip with a win.
– Rookie Nathan Poole opened the scoring, Jordan Frasca scored his 25th of the season and Braden Haché netted his second.
– Draft eligible Colts forward Hunter Haight scored in a fifth straight game.
– Ottawa Senators prospect Leevi Merilainen carried a shutout in the third period, making 32 saves for the win.
– Barrie’s Mack Guzda took the loss, making 22 saves.
– The Frontenacs hold a three point cushion atop the East Division, owning a 23-10-3-0 record.
– Barrie has lost three in a row, falling to 20-11-4-0.
– The Colts were without suspended forwards Ethan Cardwell and Declan McDonnell, who began serving suspensions on Thursday.

– Teddy Sawyer scored the go-ahead goal 8:06 into the second period as Ottawa edged Peterborough.
– Vinzenz Rohrer and Brady Stonehouse gave the 67’s a 2-0 lead with goals less than a minute apart midway through the first.
– Jonathan Melee provided both Peterborough goals in his first OHL multi-goal effort.
– There was only one minor penalty between the two clubs.
– Will Cranley stopped 18 of 20 for the win opposite Peterborough’s Tye Austin, who made 21 saves.
– Ottawa has points in three straight, improving to 18-19-1-2 to sit tied with Oshawa for sixth in the Eastern Conference.
– Peterborough is two points back of Sudbury, sitting ninth in the Eastern Conference with a 13-23-2-0 record.
