OHL Graduates to Face Canada’s National Junior Team

Atlantic University Sport announced on Thursday the roster of players who will compete in a pair of exhibition games against Canada’s National Junior Team on December 14 and 15 at the Halifax Metro Centre in Nova Scotia.

Twelve OHL graduates were among the 18 players named to the team, including former Owen Sound Attack forward Joel Ward, the leading scorer in the AUS with 10 goals and 23 points in 13 games for the University of PEI Panthers.

Other OHL graduates named to the team include forwards Dan Tudin (Ottawa 67’s) and Chris Stanley (Belleville Bulls) from Dalhousie University, Brett Gibson (Erie Otters) and Keith Delaney (Barrie Colts) from St. Mary’s University, Kyle MacAllister (Ottawa 67’s) from St. Thomas University and Cleon Smith (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) and Darcy Harris (Kitchener Rangers) from UPEI.

The roster also includes four defencemen that graduated from the OHL, including Jason Maelyko (Brampton Battalion) and Brad Morgan (Barrie Colts) of St. Mary’s, Kevin Werner (North Bay Centennials) from the University of New Brunswick and Mike Martone (Peterborough Petes) from St. Francis Xavier University.

The goalies will be supplied by the National Junior Team, who will cut their selection camp roster down to 22 players following the exhibition games.

Nearly 200 OHL graduates play in the CIS this season, including 90 in the AUS, with financial support from their OHL clubs.

The Canadian Hockey Association is announcing Team Canada’s selection camp roster at a media conference at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on Monday December 2.
