Canada Announces World Junior Selection Camp Roster

Toronto – The Canadian Hockey Association and Canadian Hockey League today
announced the roster of 34 players who are invited to Canada’s National
Junior Team Selection Camp December 11 – 16, 2002 in Halifax, NS.

The roster featured 33 CHL players, including 11 from the Ontario Hockey
League.

“The CHL is very proud to partner with the Canadian Hockey Association for
the National Junior Team program,” said CHL President and OHL Commissioner
David Branch. “We are also very proud of the young men from our three
leagues that have been invited to attend this year’s selection camp, as well
as the coaches and members of the support staff who are also products of the
Canadian Hockey League. We look forward to joining our friends in Halifax
and Sydney for the first ever World Junior Championship in Atlantic Canada.”

The selection camp roster includes OHL defencemen Brendan Bell (Ottawa
67’s), Carlo Colaiacovo (Erie Otters) and Trevor Daley (Sault Ste. Marie
Greyhounds), along with forwards Gregory Campbell (Kitchener Rangers), Corey
Locke (Ottawa 67’s), Jay McClement (Brampton Battalion), Daniel Paille
(Guelph Storm), Derek Roy (Kitchener Rangers), Eric Staal (Peterborough
Petes), Matthew Stajan (Belleville Bulls) and Kyle Wellwood (Windsor
Spitfires).

The team also features assistant coach Mike Kelly, the former coach and general manager of the North Bay Centennials and Team Physician Dr. Roy Diklich of the Windsor Spitfires.

The selection camp opens on December 11 at the Halifax Metro Centre and
concludes December 16 with the announcement of the final roster that will
compete in the World Junior Championships.

Team Canada will play a pair of exhibition games against an all-star team of
Canadian University players from the Atlantic University Sport on December
14 and 15. The AUS all-star team includes 12 OHL graduates who are attending
University with the help of scholarships from their OHL clubs.
