Wednesday Highlights: Firebirds win big in Saginaw

– The Flint Firebirds made the most of their chances, scoring seven times on 27 shots including four goals on five second period shots.
– Amadeus Lombardi led the way with a career-high four points (1-3–4) while Ethan Keppen had a goal and two helpers.
– New York Rangers prospect Brennan Othmann became the OHL’s first 30-goal scorer, reaching the mark in 37 games.
– Calem Mangone scored Saginaw’s lone goal midway through the second period before later leaving the game with an injury as Flint’s Ethan Hay was assessed a match penalty for head-checking midway through the third.
– Luke Cavallin stopped 35 of 36 to earn his fifth straight win, improving to 18-9-0-2.
– The Spirit were limited to 16 skaters and were without top 2022 NHL Draft prospect Pavel Mintyukov on Wednesday.
– Flint is 9-4-0-1 on the season series against Saginaw this season and improves to 23-14-0-2, two points back of first place Sault Ste. Marie in the Western Conference.
– The Spirit fall to 15-22-1-0 and sit ninth in the Western Conference.
