Sunday Highlights: Rangers ride into West Final

Adam Mascherin (5, 6) scored twice and added an assist while Givani Smith (6, 7) also potted a pair as the Kitchener Rangers took a 6-2 road win in Sarnia, advancing to the Western Conference Championship Series with a 4-2 series win. The Rangers fell behind 1-0 before responding with five straight markers to take the life out of an enthusiastic Sarnia crowd as Greg Meireles (2) and Logan Brown (3) also found the scoresheet. Outshot 39-29, Rangers goaltender Mario Culina made 37 saves as Kitchener returns to the Western Conference Final for the first time since 2012. Anthony Salinitri (2) and Jordan Kyrou (3) scored Sarnia goals while Drake Rymsha had a pair of assists. The Sting sees their season come to an end after recording the most successful regular season in franchise history. Overagers Justin Fazio, Connor Schlichting and Jordan Ernst played their final OHL contest. The Rangers now await the winner of a Tuesday night Game 7 contest between the Soo Greyhounds and Owen Sound Attack.

With a chance to close out the series in Game 6, Barrett Hayton (4) opened the scoring for the Soo Greyhounds on the road before the Owen Sound Attack roared back with seven unanswered to push the series to Game 7 set for Tuesday night in Sault Ste. Marie. Seven different goal-scorers powered a 7-1 Owen Sound victory as the Attack outshot the Greyhounds 46-25 and held Sault Ste. Marie to 0-for-6 on the power play. Alan Lyszczarczyk (8), Ethan Szypula (4), Jonah Gadjovich (1) and Aidan Dudas (3) all had a goal and an assist while Trent Bourque (1) and Brett McKenzie (6) also lit the lamp. Bourque’s goal was the first in his 242-game OHL career. Rookie netminder Mack Guzda took over in goal for Owen Sound, stopping 24 of the 25 shots that came his way to earn his first career OHL playoff win. Sean Durzi chipped in with a pair of assists for the Attack who live to play another day.
