Sunday Highlights: Knights ride into second round
Two goals and two assists from Matthew Tkachuk led the London Knights to a 5-2 Game 6 victory over the Owen Sound Attack on Sunday, punching their ticket to the second round of the OHL Playoffs.
The Knights won all three of their contests at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, getting a 31-save performance from Tyler Parsons on Sunday to take the first round series 4-2.
The London victory came in one of four games around the league on Sunday as three other clubs forced Game 7 matchups on Tuesday night.

LDN wins series 4-2
Matthew Tkachuk’s seventh and eighth goals of the playoffs book-ended a 5-2 Game 6 victory over the Owen Sound Attack on Sunday, sending the Knights to the second round with a 4-2 series win. London got a 31-save outing from goaltender Tyler Parsons who earned second star honours. The Knights took all three road games in Owen Sound throughout the series, also getting goals from Christian Dvorak, Victor Mete and Cliff Pu with his fifth in the victory. Nick Suzuki scored for the Attack while 300+ game veteran Josh Sterk found the back of the net in his final OHL contest. The Knights await the outcome of a Tuesday night Game 7 between Sarnia and Sault Ste. Marie to determine who they’ll face in the second round.

The Peterborough Petes will live to tell about falling behind 3-0 on a Mike Amadio natural hat-trick on Sunday. Peterborough charged back with five straight on home ice to take a 5-3 lead before a pair of late empty netters kept the maroon ahead of the North Bay Battalion for a 7-5 final. The wild see-saw battle saw Amadio score three second period goals in under seven minutes before Peterborough scampered back to force a Game 7 on Monday behind a goal and three assists from first star Jonathan Ang. Greg Betzold and Brandon Prophet each scored twice as the Petes scored seven times on 30 shots. Petes veteran Hunter Garlent finished the game with a goal and an assist while going 18/20 in the faceoff circle. Game 7 goes Tuesday in North Bay.

Jakob Chychrun’s two goals and two assists led the Sarnia Sting to a 5-1 Game 6 win in Sault Ste. Marie. The Sting continue to try and march back from a 3-1 series deficit as Charlie Graham made 28 saves and first star Pavel Zacha had a pair of goals and an assist. The Greyhounds came out strong, outshooting the Sting 16-9 in the first period to take an early lead. Sarnia struck for five unanswered the rest of the way though as Jordan Kyrou had a goal and an assist and Josh Jacobs recorded a pair of helpers. The Sting and Greyhounds square off in Game 7 on Tuesday in Sarnia.

MISSISSAUGA 7 BARRIE 0

A 3-0 shutout victory in Mississauga on Saturday is well in the rearview mirror of the Barrie Colts after the trout turned the tables in a big way on Sunday. Mason Marchment and Sean Day starred in a 7-0 victory over the Colts on home ice, each recording a goal and an assist while goaltender Jack Flinn made 24 saves for the shutout. Jared Walsh, Owen Tippett and Daniel Muzito-Bagenda also had a goal and an assist while Michael McLeod picked up a goal and two helpers. The Steelheads outshot Barrie 35-24 in the lopsided outcome, going 2-for-10 on the powerplay in the process. What’s sure to be an exciting Game 7 of the series goes Tuesday in Barrie.
