Sunday Highlights: 67’s tighten grip on East Division

 

OTTAWA 5, OSHAWA 2
The Ottawa 67’s scored twice in the first period and led 4-0 early in the third, defeating the Oshawa Generals 5-2 on the road to extend their cushion atop the East Division to 14 points. Arizona Coyotes prospect Noel Hoefenmayer (8, 9) earned first star honours with two goals and an assist from the back end while Jesse Dick (1), Graeme Clarke (11) and Kody Clark (12) found the back of the net. Tye Felhaber extended his current point streak to 11 games with two assists while Cedrick Andree stopped 28 of 30 in the crease. Matthieu Franche (1) and Serron Noel (22) provided Oshawa goals as the Generals were outshot 33-30. Ottawa improves to a league-leading 27-6-3-1, defeating the Generals for the first time in three tries this season. Oshawa falls to 21-3-2-0.

SARNIA 5, LONDON 4 – OT
The Sarnia Sting saw a 3-0 lead evaporate before Sean Josling (9, 10) played the hero, tying the score at four midway through the third period before netting the overtime winner in a 5-4 victory over the visiting London Knights. Josling’s winner came on a wrister 2:34 into the extra frame with assists from Nick Grima and Jacob Perreault. Jamieson Rees (6), Brayden Guy (11) and Alexandre Hogue (4) also scored for the Sting while Calvin Martin had a pair of assists. Trailing 3-0 late in the first, London scored four straight goals, with Billy Moskal (7, 8) picking up two of them. Cole Tymkin (14) also scored while newly acquired defenceman Joey Keane (5) picked up his first as a Knight. Ethan Langevin made 27 saves in the win as Sarnia won for the seventh time in 10 games, improving to 18-15-2-2. London earns a single point and continues to lead the Midwest Division at 24-5-3-1. The win is Sarnia’s second 5-4 victory over the Knights to require overtime or a shootout this month.

SAGINAW 5, FLINT 0
The Saginaw Spirit wrapped up 2018 in style, blanking the visiting rival Flint Firebirds 5-0 behind a 23-save shutout from rookie netminder Tristan Lennox. The 16-year-old Lennox becomes the youngest goaltender in Spirit history to record a shutout while goals came from Blade Jenkins (15, 16), Damien Giroux (16), DJ Busdeker (9) as well as Cole Coskey (17) on a shorthanded penalty shot. Flint’s Emanuel Vella turned aside 45 shots as Saginaw outdid Flint 50-23 on the shot clock. Saginaw’s seventh win in the past eight games sees the Spirit improve to 21-11-2-2, three points back of first place Sault Ste. Marie in the West Division. Flint falls to 5-31-2-0.
