Sunday Highlights: 13th straight win vaults 67’s into first place
OTTAWA 6, PETERBOROUGH 1
The battle for first place ended in favour of the Ottawa 67’s who blew past the Peterborough Petes 6-1, earning their 13th consecutive win. Ottawa’s 26th win of the season was led by a hat trick from leading scorer Marco Rossi (21, 22, 23). Fourth year OHLer Michael Little (5) put the Petes on the board midway through the first period before the Barber Poles responded with six unanswered goals from Rossi, Jack Quinn (21), Austen Keating (17), and Noel Hoefenmayer (15). Ottawa overager Joseph Garreffa registered four assists on the night, stretching his point streak to a league-high 15 games, while Rossi’s hat trick came in his 14th straight game where he’s registered points. The 67’s put 52 shots on Minnesota Wild prospect Hunter Jones, who rounded the night out with a season-high 46 saves. Ottawa netminder Cedrick Andree boasted a 25-save night. The Petes fall to second in the East Division, just one point behind the league-leading 67’s.

NORTH BAY 6, OSHAWA 5 OT
Rookie Liam Arnsby (2) scored his second career OHL goal nearly three minutes into overtime, earning North Bay a big 6-5 victory over the Oshawa Generals. Brett Neumann’s (24) first of two goals came a minute after puck drop, before North Bay’s Brandon Coe (12) and Kyle Jackson (6) put their team in front soon after. The Gens then saw three straight goals from Ty Tullio (14), Serron Noel (13), and Neumann (25), but the Troops wasted no time catching up with Brad Chenier (17) following up 44 seconds later and Mason Primeau (8) tying the score at 4-4. Allan McShane (15) and Coe (13) traded third period goals before Arnsby finished things up in the extra frame, handing the Battalion their eighth win of the season. Cameron Lamour faced 33 shots in net for the Troops, while Zachary Paputsakis stood in net for 30 saves on 36 shots. The Troops improve to 8-26-0-0 while Oshawa falls to 18-11-2-2.

LONDON 4, SARNIA 3 OT
A back and forth match between the London Knights and Sarnia Sting ended with overtime hero Billy Moskal (6) earning the W for the Knights by a score of 4-3. NHL Draft eligible Jacob Perreault (22) got things rolling for the Sting with the lone first period goal, before fellow NHL Draft hopeful Antonio Stranges (18) evened the score early into the second. The teams traded goals from Brayden Guy (9), Sahil Panwar (1), Luke Evangelista (12), and Ryan McGregor (11), before Moskal found the back of the net 45 seconds into the extra frame to seal the Knights’ OT win. Rookie Brett Brochu saved 27 of 30 shots in London’s net, and Ethan Langevin totaled 23 saves on the night. The Knights needed the win to hold on to their second place slot in the Midwest, as the surging Kitchener Rangers are hot on their tails with an equal 42 points. The Sting’s fourth straight loss keeps them last in the Western Conference.

WINDSOR 5, FLINT 2
Xavier Medina put up 42 saves between the pipes as his Windsor Spitfires powered past the Flint Firebirds in a 5-2 Sunday afternoon decision. Vegas Golden Knights prospect Connor Corcoran (12) opened the scoring midway through the first frame with his first of three points on the night (1-2-3), and Evgeniy Oksentyuk (15) scored to make it 1-1 just two minutes later. Cole Purboo (14) put Windsor back in front soon after, and Kyle McDonald (9) widened Windsor’s lead with a highlight worthy toe drag towards the end of the second period. Flint defender and Arizona Coyotes pick Dennis Brusby (4) got his team within one, but final markers from Wyatt Johnston (2) and Egor Afanasyev (14) ultimately capped off the three-goal lead. Medina’s 42-save night is the highest of his OHL career so far, in which he’s played 15 games in net for the Spits. Luke Callavin totaled 27 saves in net for the Firebirds. Windsor’s 20th win pushes them up to 44 points, where they sit tied with the Saginaw Spirit for first in the West Division. The Firebirds remain third in the division with a record of 19-14-0-0.

KITCHENER 6, ERIE 2
A three-point night from Florida Panthers prospect Greg Meireles led the Kitchener Rangers to their twelfth win in 13 games as they skated past the Erie Otters in a 6-2 tilt. Meireles (12, 13) opened the scoring with a pair of goals in the first period before Liam Hawel (9), Francesco Pinelli (11), and Jesse Fishman (4) rounded out a five-goal streak for the Rangers. Erie’s Elias Cohen (4) and Emmett Sproule (9) finally got Erie on the board within the final 20 minutes, but they were unable to catch up to the likes of the Rangers, who notched one more in the remaining two minutes thanks to NHL Draft prospect Donovan Sebrango (3). Jacob Ingham stopped 27 of the 29 shots that came his way, and Daniel Murphy saved 20 of 25 shots before rookie Aidan Campbell stepped in net for the Otters for the final 12:23. Their second straight win keeps Kitchener tied with the London Knights for 42 points in the Midwest Division and their season tally improves to 19-11-2-2, while Erie falls to 14-12-2-6.

KINGSTON 4, MISSISSAUGA 2
Ryan Dugas’ career high 51-save night highlighted the Kingston Frontenacs’ 4-2 road win in Mississauga. Nick Wong (9) put one past Kai Edmonds a minute and a half in, and Duncan Penman (7) responded a minute later to make it 1-1. Dawson Baker (14) registered a goal 35 seconds into the middle frame, kickstarting three straight goals for the Fronts, the latter of which came from Lucas Peric (3) and Jordan Frasca (8). Cole Schwindt ripped one more for the Steelheads within the game’s final two minutes, cutting Kingston’s lead to a final 4-2. Mississauga put 53 shots on Dugas, while Edmonds finished the afternoon with a 27-save total. The Frontenacs continue to round out the bottom of the East Division but improve to 10-20-2-2 on the year, while the Steelheads’ 2oth loss on the year keeps them fourth in the Central Division.

BARRIE 4, OWEN SOUND 3
Jet Greaves stopped a career-high 52 shots and the Barrie Colts snapped an eight-game losing streak as they edged the host Owen Sound Attack 4-3 in a cross-conference Sunday afternoon matchup. Ryan Suzuki got Barrie on the scoreboard first, while Owen Sound’s second line accounted for their next two goals, with Sergey Popov and Kaleb Pearson finding the back of the net. The middle frame saw three straight Barrie markers from Matthew Sredl (2), captain Jason Willms (15), and Luke Bignell (8). Daylon Groulx came through for the Attack towards the end of the period, but they would be unable to catch the Colts and a scoreless third period would end things at a tightly-fought 4-3. Owen Sound’s Mack Guzda shut down 28 of 32 shots in net. The Colts’ appearance in the W column once again keeps them second in the Central Division and tied with the Niagara IceDogs for 31 points on the year. Owen Sound remains fifth in the Midwest Division with a .500 record of 15-15-3-2, just one point behind the Erie Otters.

GUELPH 4, HAMILTON 3
Eric Uba (10, 11) registered two goals in Guelph’s 4-3 home ice victory over the Hamilton Bulldogs Sunday night. Both of Uba’s markers came within the first 14 minutes of the game, with leading Storm scorer Pavel Gogolev (26) notching a goal in between. Their 3-0 lead was spoiled by three straight Hamilton goals off the sticks of Avery Hayes (14), Tag Bertuzzi (17), and captain Isaac Nurse (4), but OHL veteran Cedric Ralph (13) put the Storm back out in front within the final frame. Guelph scored their first three goals on nine shots against Hamilton netminder Marco Constantini, prompting Zachary Roy to take over and ultimately face 22 more shots. Rookie Owen Bennett saved 27 of the Bulldogs’ 30 shots. Guelph continues to lead the Western Conference with 46 points, and Hamilton sticks around at fourth in the East Division, dropping to 15-18-2-0.
