OHL Assesses $500 Fine to Sarnia Sting Hockey Club
Upon further review of events, the League has ruled that player Mitch Young was instigated upon 8:16 into the second period, resulting in the fighting major assessed to him not counting against the Sarnia Sting’s overall total for the game. As a result, the Sting will be fined $500 rather than the previously announced total of $1000.
Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that the Sarnia Sting Hockey Club has been fined $500 as a result of events in a regular season game on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 against the visiting Flint Firebirds.
In the above noted game, the Sting surpassed the league’s threshold for allowable fighting majors in a single game of three, incurring a total of four fighting majors during the game. Two of those fighting majors carried with them accompanying instigator penalties assessed to the Sting, resulting in just three of the Flint Firebirds’ five fighting majors in the game counting against the league’s single game limit.
Offending teams are fined a total of $500 for each fighting major that surpasses the allowable number of three fighting majors assessed to their team in a single game.
