Milestone Moments: Oct. 12/17

 

Five players scored their first career OHL goal on Thursday night as four games across the league provided several milestone moments. Here’s a look at those memorable markers.

 

BRANDON COE (NORTH BAY BATTALION):
2017 third overall OHL Priority Selection choice scored his first career OHL goal in pink on Thursday. The 16-year-old found the back of the net with 3:01 remaining in the second period off a give-and-go with linemate Luke Moncada. Coe sped down the right wing and beat Ottawa’s Olivier Tremblay on the short side to tie the score at two. The Troops would go on to lose 4-3 in overtime, but Coe managed to light the lamp for the very first time and earned second star honours in the process.

 

NICK ROBERTSON (PETERBOROUGH PETES):
Rookie forward Nick Robertson picked the perfect night to score his first career OHL goal. With family in attendance from as far away as California to see the Petes’ 2017 first round pick suit up against older brother Jason Robertson and the Kingston Frontenacs for the very first time, younger brother Nick scored the third period game winner in a 2-1 victory. After setting up teammate Adam Timleck early in the second period, Robertson struck on the power play with an assist from Zach Gallant at 10:44 of the third period. Robertson is a graduate of the Toronto Red Wings Minor Midget program and has seven points (1-6–7) through his first eight games of the season.

 

STEPHANE PATRY (ERIE OTTERS):
One of two Otters to score their first career OHL goal on Thursday, Stephane Patry knocked home a rebound with 2:01 remaining in the second period as Erie made a game of things in a 7-5 loss at Barrie. The Otters fell behind 4-0, but Patry had a part in Erie’s three-straight tallies to cut the Barrie lead to one after two periods. Owen Headrick and Josh Wainman gathered assists on Patry’s milestone marker. The 17-year-old native of Geneva, Switzerland was the club’s first round (57th overall) pick in the 2017 CHL Import Draft.

 

CADE ROBINSON (ERIE OTTERS):
Cade Robinson followed Patry’s lead, scoring his first career OHL goal under two minutes later with 57 seconds left in the second period. Robinson tied the score at four on a 2-on-0 with Kyle Maksimovich that he initiated with some effective back-checking to strip the puck away from a Barrie forward. Robinson played in 44 games with the Otters last season, but lit the lamp for the first time in the 53rd of his OHL career. The Jackson, Mich. native was an 11th round pick by the club in 2016.

 

HARRISON COTTAM (LONDON KNIGHTS):
Harrison Cottam was a bright spot on an otherwise quiet night for the London Knights on Thursday in Windsor. The 18-year-old from Burlington, Ont. opened the scoring 11:19 into the first period off a centering feed from Alex Turko. That would be all the nights could muster though, eventually falling to the host Spitfires by a score of 3-1. Cottam was a free agent signing by the Knights early last season after having success with the Niagara Falls Canucks Jr. B club.
