ARBER XHEKAJ (KITCHENER RANGERS):
Kitchener Rangers rookie blueliner Arber Xhekaj opened the scoring with the first of 10 goals on Friday, scoring his first in the OHL unassisted. Xhekaj’s goal came 3:25 into action as he scored in his 16th game as the Rangers went on to defeat visiting Sarnia 6-5 in a shootout. The 6-foot-2 defenceman from Hamilton, Ont. was a free agent signing by the Rangers out of training camp this season. He has two points (1-1–2) on the campaign after spending last season with the St. Catharines Falcons Jr. B club. He is a graduate of the Mississauga Senators Minor Midget program.
SIMON ROSE (NORTH BAY BATTALION):
Sophomore defender Simon Rose contributed to North Bay’s 4-3 overtime win in Niagara with his first OHL goal. Rose had help from Justin Brazeau and Daniel Walker 5:18 into the second period to give the Troops a 2-1 lead. The 17-year-old from Renfrew, Ont. now has six points (1-5–6) through 17 games this season after registering one assists in 39 contests last year. He was North Bay’s second round (35th overall) pick in the 2017 OHL Priority Selection from the Pembroke Lumber Kings Midget AAA team.
