Knights’ Formenton signs with Senators
OTTAWA – The Ottawa Senators announced today that the club has signed forward Alex Formenton to a three-year entry-level contract.
Formenton, 18, appeared in five of the Senators’ six pre-season contests and tied for fourth in team scoring with three points (one goal, two assists). He also ranked seventh among Senators with eight penalty minutes while registering an even plus/minus rating.
A native of Barrie, Ont., Formenton made his major junior hockey debut with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights in 2016-17 and led team rookies in goals (16), assists (18), points (34) and plus/minus rating (+21) while appearing in all but three of the Knights’ 68 regular-season games. Additionally, he ranked 10th among first-year OHL players in scoring. Named to the OHL’s Second All-Rookie Team at season’s end, Formenton was a finalist for the OHL Scholastic Player of the Year award after having being recognized as a member of the OHL Scholastic Team.
Formenton was the Senators second-round selection (47th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft in Chicago.
