Generals’ Bryan Boyes receives Career Achievement Award
Bryan Boyes has been a fixture behind the Oshawa Generals bench for 35 years.
On Friday night the club’s longtime Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager was honoured among his peers receiving the Career Achievement Alumni Award at the PHATS/SPHEM Annual Banquet in Phoenix, Arizona.
The award, presented by the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society (PHATS) and Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers (SPHEM), honours individuals dedicated to their career and advancing the professional development of others in the industry.
Boyes has worked with the Generals since 1976 when he joined the team as a stick boy at the age of 14. In 1982 he was given his title of Head Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager and has held the title ever since.
During his tenure with the Generals he has been part of five OHL Championship victories including 1983, 1987, 1990, 1997, 2015, plus two Mastercard Memorial Cup titles in 1990 and 2015.
Boyes has not only been the Generals’ Equipment Manager, but has played that role several times on the international level with Team Canada at both the World Junior Championship, and the 2010 Men’s World Championship, which was held in Germany. Getting the honour eight times for the National Junior Team, his most recent appearances included both the 2017 and 2015 events in Toronto and Montreal. His six other appearances included Calgary/Edmonton (2012), Ottawa (2009), Vancouver (2006), North Dakota (2005), Winnipeg (1999), and Boston (1996). Canada has brought home gold five out of the eight times Boyes has been involved.
In 2013 Boyes was inducted into the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame in the builder category.
Congratulations to Bryan on this tremendous, well deserved honour.
