OHL Friday Night Faceoff: Barrie at Flint
Friday Night Faceoff heads to the Dort Financial Center this week as the Flint Firebirds host the Barrie Colts. It’s the second straight Friday Night Faceoff appearance for Flint following last week’s win over Windsor. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 pm, with puck drop scheduled for 7:00 pm.
Barrie enters the matchup leading the Central Division with 66 points and sitting second in the Eastern Conference. The Colts are fourth in the OHL Power Rankings and have eight wins in their last ten games. Their eight-game winning streak came to an end Sunday in Brantford.
The Colts’ offence is led by Cole Beaudoin, who has 18 goals and 55 points this season. On the blue line, Kashawn Aitcheson leads all OHL defencemen with 22 goals and has 44 points overall. Since arriving from London, Ben Wilmott has added secondary scoring, posting five goals and 10 points in nine games.
In goal, Barrie continues to rely on Ben Hrebik. He owns a .925 save percentage, second best in the OHL, while facing the third-most shots among league goaltenders.
Flint remains tied for first place in the Western Conference with 66 points, alongside Windsor, despite slipping to seventh in the OHL Power Rankings. The Firebirds split a home-and-home series with Windsor last week.
Nathan Aspinall continues to lead the OHL in scoring with 62 points in 44 games. Jimmy Lombardi leads Flint in goals with 25, while trade deadline additions Kevin He and Jacob Battaglia have provided added offence. He has recorded 19 goals and 45 points, while Battaglia has 17 goals and 31 points.
Mason Vaccari has carried the workload in goal for Flint. Acquired from Kingston in the offseason, Vaccari leads the OHL with 25 wins.
With the Colts leading the Central Division and the Firebirds sitting atop the Western Conference, Friday’s matchup brings together two teams near the top of their respective conferences.
