Colts’ Aitcheson becomes franchise’s single season goal-scoring leader on the blueline
Barrie Colts defenceman Kashawn Aitcheson continued his tremendous draft eligible season last weekend, setting a new franchise record in the process.
Aitcheson tied the score in the final minute of the third period of Saturday’s 4-3 comeback win over the Sarnia Sting, with his 24th marker of the season establishing a new Colts single season mark for a defenceman. He passed previous record-holders Andrew Marshall (23 goals, 2005-06), Aaron Ekblad (23 goals, 2013-14) and Brandt Clarke (23 goals, 2022-23) before firing home his 25th goal of the season in Sunday’s 5-4 road win over the North Bay Battalion.
A former third-round pick by the Colts in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection, Aitcheson season has yielded 58 points (25-33–58) in 63 games as he was NHL Central Scouting’s 15th ranked North American skater on their midterms released in January. The 6-foot-1, 198Ib. left-shot defender competed in this season’s Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game held in Brantford. His four overtime goals are currently tied for the season lead in 2024-25.
Aitcheson and the Colts embark on the playoffs as Central Division champions. They round out their season this week with home dates against Owen Sound and Niagara.
