47 OHL Alumni set to compete in 2025 U SPORTS University Cup in Ottawa
The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) is proud to announce that 47 OHL alumni are among the 176 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) graduates competing in the 2025 U SPORTS Men’s Hockey Championship from March 20-23 at TD Place in Ottawa.
CHL alumni represent close to 80% of the players competing at the 2025 U SPORTS University Cup, the highest total of any development league worldwide. This includes 80 graduates from the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), 49 from the Western Hockey League (WHL), and 47 from the OHL.
The CHL and its Member Leagues (WHL, OHL & QMJHL) remain committed to academic development, investing roughly $10 million annually to support the education of current and former players. This group includes the 176 CHL alumni competing in this year’s University Cup.
Among participating teams, the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Reds, aiming to become the first school in 45 years to win three consecutive David Johnston University Cup titles, have 12 OHL graduates on their roster. Meanwhile, the Queen’s University Gaels lead all programs with 14 OHL alumni, while Toronto Metropolitan University follows closely with 13.
In the tournament format, the three conference champions are seeded in the top three spots based on their final national ranking, with the OUA finalist automatically earning the No. 4 seed. Remaining teams are positioned to avoid intraconference matchups in the opening round.
Quarterfinals will take place today and tomorrow, followed by semifinal games on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET and 7 p.m. ET. The bronze medal game is scheduled for Sunday at 11 a.m. ET, with the championship game set for 5 p.m. ET.
