Chen and Crombie commit to Bulldogs
BRANTFORD, ONTARIO – Brantford Bulldogs General Manager Matt Turek today announced the signing of defenceman Daniel Chen and forward Calvin Crombie to OHL Scholarship & Development Agreements.
Chen, a product of Thornhill, Ontario arrives in Brantford coming off a strong U18 AAA season with the Mississauga Rebels. The 6’4”, 185lbs blueliner brings a rare combination of size and skating ability that immediately impressed Bulldogs staff at both development camp in the spring and again at the recently concluded training camp.
Chen joins two-time OHL Champion, and Dallas Stars prospect, Gavin White as defencemen to make the Bulldogs out of the OHL U18 Priority Selection Draft at their first training camp. The Bulldogs selected Chen with the seventh overall pick in the U18 Priority Selection last spring.
“Receiving a commitment from Daniel Chen is very exciting,” said Bulldogs General Manager Matt Turek. “Daniel has put in the work and earned this opportunity to play in the Ontario Hockey League. We believe Daniel has a very bright future and we are looking forward to seeing him grow and develop as a member of the Brantford Bulldogs.”.
Crombie, a native of Hamilton, Ontario comes to the Bulldogs off a pair of successful seasons with the Caledonia Corvairs. The hard-nosed right winger posted 21 goals & 33 assists for 54
points in 50 games for the Corvairs in the 2022-23 season adding another six goals and six assists in 16 playoff games. Originally drafted by the London Knights in the 15th round, 297th overall in 2022, Crombie signs with the Bulldogs as a free agent after impressive showings in both development and training camps.
Crombie is the nephew of former London Knights 100-point scorer Chris Crombie, who played in the OHL from 1989-92.
“The Brantford Bulldogs are proud to sign Calvin Crombie,” said Turek. “Our organization prioritizes character and hard work and Calvin has personified that in earning this opportunity. Calvin is a great example for other young hockey players to keep working towards their goals and they can achieve it. We are looking forward to seeing Calvin continue to develop with our group.”
