2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup Awards & All-Stars
Following the Championship Final, the Canadian Hockey League announced the top individual award winners and tournament All-Stars for the 2016 MasterCard Memorial Cup as selected by NHL Central Scouting.
London Knights co-captain Mitch Marner won a pair of awards, earning the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy awarded to the MasterCard Memorial Cup MVP. Marner’s two goals, 12 assists and 14 points in four games also earned him the Ed Chynoweth Trophy awarded to the tournament’s top scorer.
Marner joins Brad Richards (Rimouski, 2000) as the second player in CHL history to win a MasterCard Memorial Cup, earn the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy, be named CHL Player of the Year, earn league MVP honours (Red Tilson Trophy) and his league’s playoff MVP award (Wayne Gretzky ’99’ Award) all in the same season.
Goaltender Tyler Parsons, also of the London Knights, was named Outstanding Goaltender, earning the Hap Emms Memorial Trophy. The draft eligible 18-year-old recorded a 1.78 goals-against average and a .942 save percentage in leading the Knights to a perfect 4-0 record.
Rouyn-Noranda Huskies captain Francis Perron rounded out the award winners, receiving the George Parsons Trophy as Most Sportsmanlike Player. A fourth-year veteran of the Huskies, Perron recorded two goals, six assists and eight points in five games.
Four London Knights were named to the tournament All-Star team, with Parsons being joined by forwards Mitch Marner and Christian Dvorak along with defenceman Olli Juolevi.
Red Deer Rebels defenceman Haydn Fleury and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies winger Timo Meier rounded out the All-Star selections.
