67 OHL Players in NHL CS Midterm Rankings

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that 67 OHL players appear in NHL Central Scouting’s Midterm Rankings for the 2016 NHL Draft which takes place June 24-25 in Buffalo, New York.

The domestic rankings list a total of 210 North American skaters including 60 from the OHL, also listing an additional 30 North American goaltenders including seven that currently compete in the league.

Matthew Tkachuk of the London Knights is the top ranked North American skater, joining Jakob Chychrun of the Sarnia Sting ranked second and Alexander Nylander of the Mississauga Steelheads ranked third in rounding out the top three.

OHL players make up six of the top-10 skaters listed with Finnish World Junior gold medalist rearguard Olli Juolevi coming in at fifth followed by Mississauga Steelheads sophomore forward Michael McLeod at number six and Windsor Spitfires blueliner Mikhail Sergachev ranked 10th. London Knights winger Max Jones (11), Windsor Spitfires centreman Logan Brown (14), Mississauga Steelheads forward Nathan Bastian (19), 2015 OHL and CHL Rookie of the Year Alex DeBrincat of the Erie Otters (20), big Windsor Spitfires blueliner Logan Stanley (23) and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds sophomore winger Tim Gettinger (28) round out the 12 OHL players appearing in the top-30. 

Three of the top seven ranked goalies are also from the OHL led by Joseph Raaymakers of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at number four, Dylan Wells of the Peterborough Petes listed fifth, and Evan Cormier of the Saginaw Spirit ranked seventh.

The Knights lead all OHL teams with eight players listed followed by the Steelheads, Greyhounds, and Hamilton Bulldogs each with five players listed.

A total of 152 players from the Canadian Hockey League appear in the rankings led by the OHL’s 67, followed by 51 players from the Western Hockey League, and 34 from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

All 40 of the CHL players competing in the 2016 BMO CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game on Thursday January 28 in Vancouver, BC, appear in the Midterm Rankings featuring 35 of the top-60 skaters and a total of 20 OHL players.

Last season, 53 OHL players appeared in the Midterm Rankings before 31 were selected in the 2015 NHL Draft including seven OHL players chosen in the first round.
