Trevor Letowski Named Assistant Coach
Sarnia, On The Sarnia Sting Hockey Club has announced this afternoon that Trevor Letowski has been hired as the new Assistant Coach.
Letowski played for the Sting for three years, from 1994 to 1997. In his 187 games with the Sarnia Sting, Letowski scored 93 goals and earned 248 points. Named rookie of the year 1994-95, the Thunder Bay native still stands as the fourth highest scorer in Sting history.
In 1997, Letowski won a gold medal with Team Canada at the World Junior Championships in Geneva, Switzerland. He is one of only two Sarnia Sting alumni to ever represent Canada at the World Junior Tournament.
“Trevor represents who we are as an organization both on and off the ice. He was a leader, and our captain and a member of Team Canada at the world Juniors and went on to have a successful professional career. He now brings that leadership back to our organization as a member of our coaching staff,” says Sarnia Sting President Larry Ciccarelli.
Originally drafted by the Phoenix Coyotes in the 7th round of the 1996 NHL draft,(174th overall) he would spend two years playing in the AHL, with the Springfield Falcons, before being called up to the Phoenix Coyotes in 1998.
The Coyotes named Letowski rookie of the month in January of 2000. Earning 73 points with the Coyotes, Letowski would move north and join the Vancouver Canucks in 2001.
After a season and a half in Vancouver, Letowski played with the Columbus Blue Jackets, 2003-06, and the Carolina Hurricanes, from 2006-08.
Letowski would end up playing in 616 games in the NHL, scoring 84 goals and 201 points.
The past two seasons he joined the Astana Barys of the Kontinental Hockey League, (Russia) scoring 10 goals and 27 points in 91 games.

General Manager and Head Coach Dave MacQueen added, “Being a former NHL and KHL player who just recently retired Trevor will be someone our current players can look up to and learn from. His professional playing experience at the highest level will be an asset to the program we are building. It will help us in everything from the on ice product to future player development and player recruitment.”
