SmartStop Post Game Summary – Steelheads fall to the IceDogs
ST.CATHARINES, ON – The Steelheads travelled to St.Catharines on Saturday night to face the Niagara IceDogs.
Both teams entered the game coming off season-opening losses. The first period started slowly, with only four shots combined through the first 7:29. Midway through the first, the Steelheads went on the power play. They were unable to capitalize, but minutes later, Niagara IceDogs defenceman Callum Cheynowski broke the ice, giving Niagara a 1-0 lead.

The Niagara IceDogs started the second on the power play, but the Steelheads held strong and killed off the opportunity. The IceDogs had three power-play opportunities in the period, but the Steelheads penalty kill remained perfect, successfully killing off all three. Later in the period, IceDogs forward Reyth Smith added to Niagara’s lead, making it 2-0 heading into the second intermission.

The Steelheads got off to a quick start in the third, as Keaton Ardagh (#10) scored his second goal of the season 1:29 into the period to bring Brampton within one. Carter Hicks (#58) and Geno Carcone (#9) picked up the assists, with the point marking Carcone’s first OHL point. Niagara forward Reyth Smith answered back minutes later to restore the IceDogs’ two-goal lead. Layne Gallacher added another goal later in the period, as the IceDogs went on to take the game 4-1.
