Rangers Home Opener this Friday
RANGERS HOME OPENER THIS FRIDAY

The Kitchener Rangers began the 2001-2002 Ontario Hockey League season this past Sunday with a 4-1 win over rival Guelph Storm.

Derek Roy and newcomer Brad Woods each added two points. Goals were scored by Roy, Mike Amodeo, imports Petr Hemsky and Petr Kanko, who added the empty netter. Scott Dickie stopped 29 of 30 shots in being named the games first star.

This weekend, the Rangers home opener sees them take on the Sarnia Sting. Game time is 7:30pm this Friday, September 21 at The Aud.

Pre-game festivities get underway at 7:15pm, with Don Cameron once again kicking off the season by introducing the 2001-2002 version of the Kitchener Rangers. This will include an exciting fireworks and pyrotechnics show.

Rangers Coach/General Manager Peter DeBoer added: “We’re looking forward to this weekends home opener with lots of anticipation.” Associate Coach/Assistant G.M. Steve Spott echoed DeBoer’s excitement. “It will be exciting. Sarnia will be a tough opponent with several returning players including Eric Himelfarb. We need to bring our ‘A’ game.”

Special events include “Meet the Molson Extreme team” as well as a “Hot Dog and Pop Special”. The first 1,500 fans to pay $1 will receive a hot dog and a soft drink courtesy of J.M. Schneiders Inc. and Coca-Cola.

KW Oktoberfest’s mascot Onkel Hans will also be in attendance.
