Rangers get honourable mention in Kia CHL Top 10
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced the week 20 edition of the Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings for the 2019-20 season. The weekly rankings of the CHL’s Top-10 teams are selected by a panel of National Hockey League scouts.
The Ottawa 67’s remain atop the weekly rankings for the fifth straight week as they continue to roll on a nine-game winning streak. Ottawa has won 26 of the past 27 as 2020 NHL Draft prospect Marco Rossi leads the OHL in scoring with 88 points (30-58–88) while overage rearguard Noel Hoefenmayer leads all defenders with 67 points (19-48–67). The 67’s scored wins over the Niagara IceDogs, Hamilton Bulldogs and Soo Greyhounds last weekend and gear up for a big Eastern Conference three-in-three on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as they take on Hamilton, Peterborough and North Bay.
A nine-game winning streak has carried the London Knights back into the Kia CHL Top 10 as they sit atop the Midwest Division with a 33-13-1-1 record. The Knights have been led by reigning OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week Connor McMichael who registered his sixth hat-trick of the season last weekend and sits third in OHL scoring with 83 points (37-46–83). San Jose Sharks prospect Ryan Merkley has also been hot of late with 10 points over his last four games and the league’s second-highest total of 60 points (12-48–60) among defencemen. Rookie netminder Brett Brochu has now won 11 straight contests, improving to 22-5-0-0. The Knights prepare for a big Friday night matchup at home to the Saginaw Spirit who lead the West Division.
The Kitchener Rangers lost last weekend, dropping out of the Top 10 but remain in the honourable mention category. Kitchener sits three points back of London in the Midwest Division with a 29-12-5-2 record.
