Rangers Fans Donate 8,567 meals to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region
On Friday, December 15th the Kitchener Rangers held a Holiday Game and Food Drive in support of the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, where fans were asked to bring non-perishable food and monetary donations.
The Rangers are thrilled to announce that $3,668 and 1,575 pounds of food was collected at the game resulting in 8,567 meals for people in need!
“The need for food assistance is so high,” Kim Wilhelm, interim CEO of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region told CTV News Kitchener. “It is the highest that we have seen in our 40-year history. The cost of living has really contributed to those who are accessing food assistance.”
Eight volunteers from The Food Bank were onsite throughout the game, cheering on the Rangers and collecting non-perishable food and cash donations from fans.
“That food will go directly out into the community to help those accessing food assistance,” Kim explained. “If you make a financial donation, we’ll use those funds to buy food that will also go out to the community.”
The Kitchener Rangers are thrilled to continue partnering with The Food Bank. Since 2014, the Kitchener Rangers have helped raise more than 64,000 meals during special game nights for people experiencing food insecurity.
The Rangers would like to thank The Food Bank for the critical work they do in our community and all Rangers fans who brought a donation to the game. Your generosity truly makes a difference to the more than 58,600 individuals in our community who struggle to afford to put food on the table and need food assistance.
