Hockey Day in Rangers Nation 2018
On Saturday, December 8th The Aud was filled with smiling 10-year-olds as they had the opportunity to participate in Hockey Day in Rangers Nation 2018—they also had a lot of Gatorade.
The 9th Annual Hockey Day in Rangers Nation aimed to engage the region’s 10-year-old Major Atom house league hockey players, providing them with the opportunity to participate in an authentic Rangers’ Game Day Experience.
“It felt great because I usually get to watch the Kitchener Rangers play here or at home on my TV. It was just so much fun,” said Jacob De Wit of the KMHA AtomC Orange. “I got the experience and I think we played great. My favourite part was the big screen on the ice.”
The teams played between 8am – 4pm, and fourteen house league teams from around the Waterloo Region experienced what it’s like to be part of the Kitchener Rangers as they played a full game against a team from outside of their own league.
“It is good for the kids to get out and see the big rink, hear the national anthem and get the full experience. They had a lot of fun,” said Head Coach Bill Jennings of the WMHA AtomC Black. “They have been looking forward to this day and haven’t stopped talking about it.”
The teams started with their very own dressing room attendant, followed by pre-game introductions on the centre ice video board and ended with a gift package and a post-game meal. All of the teams got the full Kitchener Rangers experience.
“We have teams from all around the region,” said Kitchener Rangers Board of Directors Executive, Craig Campbell. “Having the opportunity to play where the Rangers play is a once in a lifetime experience for them.”
On Sunday, December 9th, players re-lived their day as Hockey Day highlights were broadcast on the video scoreboard as the Rangers played host to the Frontenacs.
