Game Recap: Rangers close out Weekend with Win over Kingston

KITCHENER, ON – The classic cowboy came back, and the Rangers used that retro momentum to ride to a 6-3 victory over the Kingston Frontenacs.

Wearing their just-unveiled “Tex Jersey” as a new alternate this season, Kitchener galloped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period Sunday night. It marked the first time this season the Rangers scored a first-period goal on home ice.

The Frontenacs found their game, though, scoring before the end of the first period and adding a pair just 1:00 minute apart in the second for a 3-2 lead midway through the contest. But the Rangers were able to rope in their opponents, thanks to a last-minute goal from captain Andrew MacNiel, which sent the game to the third period in a 3-3 tie.

The final frame was all Rangers as Kitchener scored three more times, including two goals from Tanner Lam, who leads the team with five. Lam’s first goal was not just short-handed, it was also the game winner, giving him the game-winning marker in each of Kitchener’s victories so far this season. Haeden Ellis and Cameron Arquette each had a goal and an assist in the game, while defenceman Alexander Bilecki chipped in with two assists for the second straight night.

The win is the first on home ice for the Rangers this season as they improve to 3-and-2. For Kingston, the loss marks a third straight defeat as they fall to 2-and-3.
