FINAL (OT): Rangers 4, Attack 3
The Kitchener Rangers headed north on Saturday night to face The Owen Sound Attack. We were looking to build off our big win over The London Knights on Friday.
Owen Sound scored a short-handed goal to open the scoring, which gave them an early 1-0 lead. Navrin Mutter took a slashing penalty, but the Rangers were able to kill the penalty. Just after, Mutter capitalized on a nice pass from Carson Rehkopf to tie the game 1-1. Pavel Cajan had a stellar start to the game, stopping 24 of 25 shots faced in the 1st period. We looked to gain the lead in the 2nd.
47 seconds in, Navrin Mutter snapped a shot, giving us a 2-1 lead. Despite Cajan’s best efforts, Owen Sound tied the game just past the midway point of the period. On a late powerplay, Mitchell Martin tipped in a point shot from Roman Schmidt, which gave us a 3-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.
Early in the final frame, Owen Sound tied the game again, making it 3-3. Both teams exchanged chances throughout the period, but neither could capitalize. Regulation solved nothing, so we needed overtime. Pavel Cajan continued his solid play facing a total of 67 shots through 3 periods.
A minute into overtime, Joseph Serpa scored to secure a 4-3 win for the Rangers. Pavel Cajan stopped 65 of 68 shots in the game to help the Rangers to victory as well.
Our next home game is on Tuesday, February 15th, against The Sarnia Sting at 7:00 p.m.
