Gens Down Petes 6-1 in Sunday Night Showdown
After a day off on Saturday for Peterborough, it was rivalry renewed on Sunday night at the GM Centre as the biggest rivalry in junior hockey went down between the Petes and Generals. The Petes outworked Oshawa in the second period, but the Gens book-ended this effort with three-goal periods in the first and third, downing Peterborough 6-1.

Matt Mancina made his return in goal for the Petes, and made a number of highlight reel saves for the visitors throughout the first, but it was Ken Appleby who blanked his opponent in the opening frame. Michael Dal Colle got things started for Oshawa, blasting home a powerplay marker with help from Cole Cassels and Mitchell Vande Sompel.
The middle part of the period was a goalie battle, but Oshawa was back at it with Dal Colle finishing another play from Cassels with less than two minutes to play in the first. Hunter Smith also picked up an assist on the Dal Colle goal, and with 47 seconds to play, Chris Carlisle made it 3-0 Genes from Sam Harding and Tobias Lindberg. Oshawa led 18-11 in shots after one.

The middle period was all Peterborough from start to finish. Mancina made some great stops when needed, but the puck had all but applied for permanent residency in the Generals’ zone. At the 8:20 mark, Josh MacDonald stepped over the blue line, deked through the Oshawa defence, and beat Appleby high to get the Petes on the board from Matt McCartneyand Hunter Garlent.
Despite the continued pressure, this would be the only Peterborough goal of the period. Heading into the final twenty, Oshawa led 3-1 despite a 27-24 Petes shot advantage.

The Gens got off to a flying start in the third period. Anthony Cirelli finished off a great play 1:52 into the frame, with helpers awarded to Dal Colle and Vande Sompel. A mere 30 seconds later, Stephen Desrocher got the GM Centre faithful on their feet with a goal to make it 5-1 Oshawa, assisted by Aidan Wallace.
The homers were at it again with just under ten minutes to play in regulation, as import Tobias Lindberg scored from Manchurek and Desrochers. This was the final goal of the night, as the Generals picked up a 6-1 home win, also taking the shot game by count of 40-35.
Dal Colle, Lindberg, and Appleby were the first, second, and third stars of the game, respectively.
