Whalers down Otters, 5-1
The Erie Otters lost their fifth straight game as the Plymouth Whalers took a 5-1 decision at Tullio Arena Friday night.
Tom Wilson opened up the scoring three minutes and 45 seconds into the game with his first of the season on the power play. Mitchell Heard and Garrett Meurs also scored in the first to give the Whalers a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes.
Jamie Devane scored his third goal of the season just over eight minutes into the second to pad the Whalers’ lead, and Wilson would add his second of the game three minutes later to make it 5-0.
Brett Thompson scored the Otters’ only goal of the game with six minutes and eight seconds left in the second, as he ripped a wrist shot through the glove of Matt Mahalak for his fourth goal of the season.
The Otters were outshot by the Whalers, 33-22, as Tyson Teichmann made 28 saves in the loss for Erie.
The Otters return to Tullio Arena Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Ottawa 67’s. The first 1,000 fans receive a bag of Herr’s Potato Chips. Fans who wear a football jersey get into the game for $10.00.
Hockey for the Hungry returns Wednesday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m. when the Otters host the Niagara IceDogs. Bring a non-perishable food item to the game and get in for just $2.00. Food is also being collected at State Farm Insurance locations across Erie County. It’s also a Wendy’s Buck Night with Smith’s hot dogs, pop, beer and popcorn.
