Cowan, Knights clinch division against Rangers
LONDON, ON – The London Knights clinched the Midwest Division and Easton Cowan extended his point streak to 32 games with a 4-1 win against the Kitchener Rangers on Saturday evening.
Cowan, a Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, recorded two second period assists to bring his totals to 24 goals, 37 helpers, and 61 points during his 32-game streak.
Jacob Julien’s 26th of the year put London (45-14-1-3) ahead 1-0 early in the second period on an unlucky bounce in front of the net that trickled past Kitchener (40-21-2-0) netminder Jackson Parsons.
Three minutes later, Oliver Bonk, with pressure on him in the slot, wired a wrister over Parsons’ blocker to give the Knights a 2-0 lead. Shortly after, Denver Barkey, who had a two-point outing, put London ahead 3-0 after perfectly picking the top right corner for his 32nd goal of the year.
In the third period, Mitchell Martin buried the lone marker for Kitchener, and Kaleb Lawrence scored an empty net goal for the green and gold.
Michael Simpson made 23 saves for London and earned his 31st win of the campaign. Meanwhile, Parsons turned away 27 shots for the Rangers.
On Wednesday night, the Knights head to Erie for one last matchup with the Otters this season.
