SEVEN KNIGHTS NAMED TO OHL ALL-STAR AND ALL-ROOKIE TEAMS
Seven Knights have been named to the Ontario Hockey League’s all-star and all-rookie teams voted on by league General Mangers.
Highly ranked NHL draft prospects Easton Cowan and Oliver Bonk were named to the second all-rookie team after they first full year with the team. Both spent time in the GOJHL in 2021-22 but were massive parts to this year’s efforts in a Western Conference Championship. Cowan finished this season with 20 goals and 53 points across all 68 games and another 21 points in the postseason. Bonk recorded 40 points in 67 games from the back end and finished second in postseason rookie scoring behind Cowan with 11 points.
First year players Sam Dickinson and Zach Bowen were named to the first all-rookie team. Dickinson, the fourth overall pick in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection was acquired by the Knights prior to the season for a slew of a picks from the Niagara IceDogs. Dickinson finished his impressive rookie season with 23 points and 8 points in the postseason, good for fourth among rookies. Zach Bowen had a record breaking rookie season, breaking the Knights all-time record for consecutive wins by a rookie winning 15 straight games. Bowen helped lead the Knights to a trip to the finals after an unfortunate injury to starter Brett Brochu.
Logan Mailloux, Brett Brochu, and Dale Hunter were all named to the second all-star team. Mailloux had an impressive year from the back end, scoring the most goals by a defenceman across the OHL with 26 and finishing with 53 points in 59 games. He continued in the playoffs with a record setting scoring pace where he recorded 24 points in a single playoff run, breaking Olli Maatta’s record for points in a single playoff run by a Knights defenceman in franchise history. Brett Brochu returned as the reigning OHL Goaltender Of The Year and proved himself once again. Brochu finished the season with a 2.82 GAA and .902 SV% and a 28-17-2 record. Brochu finished his OHL career with the second most wins in Knights history with 89, just four behind Michael Houser for first. Brochu’s playoffs was one of the most dominant performances in recent history. Before a lower-body injury in the Conference Finals, Brochu posted a league leading 9-1 record, 1.48 GAA, and .943 SV%. In those ten games Brochu recorded four shutouts, good to break the record for most shutouts in a playoff run by a Knights goaltender. Dale Hunter was named to the second all-star team for the seventh time in his OHL career after leading the Knights to another Midwest Division title and a season in which he saw his 900th all-time win as head coach of the London Knights. Hunter enters next season just seven wins behind Bert Templeton for the second most wins by a coach in the OHL.
