BERISHA SCORES TWO LEADING KNIGHTS TO A 4-1 WIN
Two goals from Aaron Berisha and a solid defensive effort landed the London Knights a 4-1 win over Saginaw on Friday night at Budweiser Gardens.
Berisha’s first of the game and sixth of the season came short-handed at 6:58 of the first period. Christian Dvorak carried a puck deep into the Saginaw end and eventually fed it into the slot to Berisha heading to the net and he converted the pass for a 1-0 London lead.
That goal stood up until Berisha struck again in the second period on a rebound at 5:49 and the Knights had a 2-0 lead after forty minutes.
In the third, the London power play, which had come close in the first two periods, clicked on a 4-way passing play that was finished by J.J. Piccinich at the left side of the Saginaw net.
London held the 3-0 lead into the final minutes when Owen MacDonald sealed the win with an empty-net goal.
The Knights couldn’t seal the shutout as Mitchell Stephens managed to lift a rebound into the London net on a power play with 55.7 seconds remaining.
Both Tyler Parsons and Evan Cormier did their parts to keep the game low scoring. Each goalie made saves on breakaways and point blank and each of them got a little help from the red posts beside them as well.
The win improves the Knights’ record to 5-1-1-1.
London will be home to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday night at 7 PM. The Greyhounds are coming off a loss to Sarnia from Friday night. There are tickets available and they can be purchased at the Knights’ Armouries, by calling 519-681-0800 X 1 or online at www.cjbk.com
