KNIGHTS ANNOUNCE 2023 BRANKS HALL OF FAME CLASS
The London Knights are proud to announce the class of 2023 to the Don Brankley Hall of Fame.
The three inductees will be honoured at the February 8 home game against the visiting Kitchener Rangers with a special pre-game media press conference and ceremony.
1960’s: Dan Maloney
1968-1970 – 107 GP – 106 Points – 294 PIMs
Dan Maloney played for the Knights towards the end of the 1960s. After his final season in junior, he was selected in the first round, fourteenth overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1970 NHL entry draft. Dan would go on to an eleven season NHL career with the Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings where he served as team captain in the 1977-1978 season before ending his career with the Toronto Maple Leaf’s. After his playing career Dan went on to be a successful coach in the NHL with the Leaf’s, Jets and Rangers. Dan was a 1975-76 NHL All Star.
1970’s: Rick Green
1972-1976 – 199 GP – 150 Points – 184 PIMs
Rick Green spent four seasons in London in the early to mid 1970’s. In his final stint with the Knights in the 1975-76 Rick was named to the OHL first all star team and OHL defenseman of the year. Following the conclusion of his OHL career he would go on to be the first London Knight ever selected first overall in the NHL draft being picked by the Washington Capitals. After six seasons with the Capitals Rick went on to play seven more seasons for the Montreal Canadiens where he would win the 1985-86 Stanley Cup. Rick also played for the Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders at the end of his NHL career. After his playing career Green coached in the NHL for eleven seasons with the Islanders, Kings and Canadiens. Internationally Rick represented Canada on four occasions at the World Championships. Green was a 1985-86 Stanley Cup Champion, 1975-76 OMJHL First Team All Star and 1975-76 OMJHL Most Outstanding Defenseman (Max Kaminsky Trophy)
2000’s: Dennis Wideman
2000-2004 – 204 GP – 197 Points – 347 PIMs
Dennis Wideman came to the Knights in a trade with the Sudbury Wolves. Wideman quickly became a fan favourite in London known for his physicality and offensive ability alike. After his second year with the Knights Wideman was drafted in the eighth round of the NHL entry draft by the Buffalo Sabres. In his final season with the Knights Dennis recorded an impressive league leading plus fifty-one rating while breaking the twenty-goal mark for the third consecutive season. Twice in his junior career Dennis would lead all OHL defencemen in goals. Dennis would go on to a twelve-year NHL career playing 815 games with the St Louis Blues, Boston Bruins, Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals, and Calgary Flames where he served as an assistant captain for two seasons. After his playing career Dennis joined the Kitchener Rangers as an Assistant Coach. Dennis was a 2003-04 OHL First All Star Team and 2003-04 CHL Second All Star Team
