CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF WAYNE MAXNER
The London Knights Hockey Club and the London Knights Alumni will be participating in the Celebration of Life of former Head Coach Wayne Maxner.
Born in Halifax, Maxner was introduced to the Ontario Hockey Association as a player for the Niagara Falls Flyers in the 1961-62 season. Maxner was the OHA’s leading scorer in 1962-63 earning the Eddie Powers Trophy. That same season Maxner was the league’s most outstanding player carving his name on the Red Tilson Trophy. Maxner was a member of the 1962-63 J.Ross Robertson Cup Champion Niagara Falls Flyers who competed in the 1963 Memorial Cup.
Maxner’s tenure behind the London Knights bench started in the 1986-87 season through the 1989-90 season. He amassed a record of 143-105-16 in that four year span. Maxner guided the 1988-89 London Knights to the 3rd round of the playoffs and an Emms Division Final appearance. Maxner was voted as the OHL 2nd Team All-Star Coach during the 1989-90 season.
The London Knights Hockey Club and the London Knights Alumni extend their condolences to Wayne’s wife Kathleen, son Wayne (Kayo), daughter Shelley (Charles), stepdaughters Leigh (Brandon) and Avril (Marty), half brothers Alison and Charles and half sister Sharon. His children, grandchildren and extended family were a source of great joy. Wayne was predeceased by his parents and his sister Ruth and brother John.
