PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: REYTH SMITH
By Kiera Schaafsma
NIAGARA, ONT – Nineteen-year-old Reyth Smith is entering his fourth season in the OHL and is off to a hot start for the IceDogs, recording seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in four games.
The Windsor native played 63 games last season and recorded four goals and five assists for nine points. Only five games into the season, the OHL veteran has already matched his goal total from last season.
The IceDogs faced off against the Brampton Steelheads for the 2026 Home Opener on September 19th, where Smith recorded two goals and one assist, making his 3-point night a career-high. The team then went on the road, and Smith carried that momentum with him. He recorded one goal and one assist against Saginaw and scored again against Flint.
With his assist last night in a 2-1 Overtime win against division rivals, the Barrie Colts, Smith is now riding a four-game point streak as we prepare to take on the Sudbury Wolves, who remain undefeated.
“I feel like everyone is ready to play this year. Everyone had a big summer… There are a lot of people doubting us as a team, and we’re ready to prove them wrong,” said Smith, who has been sporting an “A” on his shoulder, in an interview.
He leads the IceDogs in points and goals so far this season and is currently tied at fifth in the league for points
Smith looks to continue his hot streak tonight.
The IceDogs return to the Meridian Centre on October 8th for their next home game against the Ottawa 67s.
