A Look-Ahead February 23
The Oshawa Generals will continue their four-game home stand with visits from Mississauga, Kitchener and Peterborough. After an overtime win on Sunday against Ottawa, the Generals pulled themselves back into the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference after the Hamilton Bulldogs lost earlier in the day.
Anthony Cirelli scored the overtime winner after dancing around a 67’s defender and tucking the puck in past Ottawa goaltender Leo Lazarev. Brock Welsh, playing in his second game since being recalled, scored his first career OHL goal in the second period.
Wednesday, February 24 – Mississauga Steelheads @ 7:05
The Steelheads will visit the General Motors Centre for the second time this season on Wednesday night. In their last meeting on November 29, Mississauga came away with a 3-2 shootout victory. Owen Tippett scored the lone goal in the shootout and added one in regulation time to help lead the Steelheads to the win. Jason Smith added the other goal for the Steelheads, while Michael McLeod, Nathan Bastian, Josh Burnside and Everett Clark picked up assists. Domenic Commisso scored both Generals goals, including a highlight-reel move, dancing through the Steelheads defenders before beating Jack Flinn. Kenny Huether and Kyle MacLean picked up assists on the Commisso goals.
Wednesday nights game will be presented by Talk Today, an initiative the OHL formed with the Canadian Mental Health Association to battle mental health issues around the league and to train players and staff about mental health awareness. The CMHA will be on hand for a ceremonial puck drop as well as have a table set up on the concourse where fans can visit and learn more about the Talk Today program.
Saturday, February 27 – Kitchener Rangers @ 2:05
In an afternoon affair on Saturday, the Generals will host the Rangers for their second and final meeting of the season. Their last matchup on February 19 saw Kitchener walk away with a decisive 5-0 win. Rangers captain Ryan MacInnis scored a hat-trick to help his team pick up the two points while Darby Llewellyn and Brandon Robinson scored one goal each. Adam Mascherin and Miles Liberati each picked up two assists in the game while Luke Opilka stopped 20 shots in the shutout. Jeremy Brodeur stopped 38 shots in the loss, including some highlight reel saves that kept the game close in the first period.
Sunday, February 28 – Peterborough Petes @ 6:05
The Generals will end their home stand with a visit from the Petes on Sunday night. This will be their seventh of eight meetings, with the Generals leading the season series 4-2. The teams last met on February 11, with the Generals winning by a 4-1 score. The Generals received goals from Jalen Smereck, Commisso, Riley Stillman and Alexandre Renaud. Jack Studnicka, Lukas Lofquist and Joe Manchurek also picked up points, while Brodeur stopped 37 shots to earn the win. The Petes lone goal was scored by Eric Cornel, with assists going to Hunter Garlent and Logan DeNoble. Matthew Mancina started in the Petes net, allowing four goals on 19 shots before Dylan Wells came on and stopped everything that came his way. Peterborough will visit the General Motors Centre once more before the regular season comes to a close.
Sundays game will be sponsored by Great Clips and will feature a hair-cutting booth set up in section 319, as well as their annual Chuck a Puck in support of United Way of Durham Region will take place during the intermission. Fans can also visit Great Clips booth to donate to United Way of Durham Region.
